FREEDOM OF SPEECH SHOULD NEVER MEAN FREEDOM TO ABUSE

Today I would be doing a post on Freedom of speech, don't worry I still have my oufit post within it but this topic has bothered on my mind for so long that I think it is wise to speak out. I know this topic is extensive and broad. And I cannot totally be able to write extensively on it without boring you guys, so I would just try to be as brief as possible.

When I read articles online, I try to see peoples perspective to these article even though I may have posted mine because sometimes others opinion might be insightful. But of late, I have not been motivated to read people comment because of the vile things they write.

So this is my two cent on this matter, If you don't have anything insightful to say "Keep Your Opinion To Yourself". One that particularly touched me recently was a self proclaimed atheist name calling people with religious believes and he's argument was that they especially Christians should be hanged and mutilated for their believes the way their ancestors did to atheist. It brings to mind this question, should people be killed for what their predecessors did?. And I say "No" because if we go down that route, no one would remain on the face of the earth.

Looking back, violence has been something most people took to in those days as a means to show their superiority. The Jews, The Germans, The entire Western Country, The Africans, The Asians, The Christians, The Muslim, Everyone. But with the dawn of greater intellect, we should be able to think more logically and constructively while leaving the past behind and try to shape the future for the betterment of all.

The internet trolls are: cowardly loner, spending hours hunched over the keyboard, spitting out venom from the relative safety of an anonymous IP address. Yet trolls come in all shapes and sizes and many are not necessarily being anonymous.  The rapid rise of social media over the last few years and the ease with which an audience can now communicate their approval, and their disapproval, has seen an exponential increase in trolling behaviour and general abuse, with cases of online defamation doubling year on year.

Over the last year or so, social media sites have been attacked for allowing users to post abuse about other people onto their sites. These include tweets on twitter calling for other users to be raped or killed. These posts have been implicated in a number of suicides while in one notable case, Sally Bercow, the wife of the Speaker of the UK Parliament, was found guilty of libel for a tweet she posted implying somebody else was a pedophile. Therefore, social media platforms must take such abuse seriously. It can, and does, lead to suicides – especially if the victims already have low self-esteem. It can escalate and lead to false rumours, and even worse, it could lead to action against the victim.

This is not a case of freedom of speech being blocked. It’s a case of free speech that is liable to cause harm to others being punished. Anybody who tries to justify abuse using arguments that they support freedom of speech is confusing “freedom of speech” with “free speech”. Freedom of Speech is the right to communicate opinions and ideas... and censoring these is one of the first signs of a restrictive society that can lead to totalitarianism. It is not, however, a right to “free speech” where you can call for the rape of women, or abuse others through words or images. Freedom of Speech also implies responsibilities that justify that freedom. So everyone's help is needed to bring perpetrators of online bullying (or any form of bullying) to book.

Thanks for reading and I hope you would make an effort to stop this form of abuse. Okay on my outfit, I was going for cool look not too colorful but still a subtle play on stripe. What do you think?.

I always love to read your insightful comments. Thank you all for reading.

  1. I totally agree with you, I'm not good at long speaches but really we're on the same page! There will always be someone that think different from us, someone who has different ideas and who are we to say who's right or wrong? And isn't it beautiful to think and go differently?
Oh and your outfit is lovely ;)

  8. I can't agree with you more: "if you don't have anything nice to say, its best to keep your mouth shut". I for once can't stand those who are so opinionated that they can't be practical and think sensibility.

The skirt is well matched with an appropriate top. Looking good as usual.

  41. Yeah, I feel that people are abusing freedom of speech to say mean things. Look at the Internet, there are many people going around being anonymous and being all hateful. There's a different between saying out how you feel about things and shoving your opinions down people's throat and being hateful. Hahaha anyways love that outfit, you kill it! xo

  45. I do believe in Freedom and it's something that I treasure. There will always be those who abuse certain liberties, and it's up to us the public to disengage from it. Giving attention to it, I think makes it worse. Laws which stop this sort of behavior are many time required to make a positive change. Very cute office look by the way!

TURBAN DAY

My first attempt at incorporating a turban without wearing a trad went amazing well. I have been tying turbans and scarves a lot lately (and no it isn't religious more like my culture) but never tried it with a top and pants. So today, I decided to break that norm and use a turban with whatever I choose to wear. Hence, this outfit. What are your thoughts?.

My Favorite Links Of The Week

Today I would be highlighting my best links of the week and why. First of, none of the articles were written by me or anyone I know but they have greatly impacted my life. I love to read (it is actually a hobby, dorky I know) and enlighten my perspective on life in generally and this has really contributed to building of my character and probably personality. I will run through the links paragraph by paragraph and hopefully won't bore you.

I stumbled upon this advice "4 Ways to Increase Job Search Confidence" and I was immediately taken because the writer was speaking to me. Generally I tend to shy away from things I know I may not be qualified to do even though I may be wickedly good at it. I kind of keep my talent on the down low for fear of either seeming like a know it all or coming off wrong. I am not a perfectionist by any means but I am one of those people who believe that all arguments or opinions should be factually verifiable (I know it is bad and I am working o…

Suit And Tie

If you remember correctly, I showed you all My Big Reveal. So today you would be seeing it in an outfit. I woke up with Angelina Jolie's outfit to BAFTA award on my mind so I decided to replicate it while adding my own touch to the ensemble.

Yeah, I tried it out with a white lace top. Different but me right?

My ultimate goal was to take the look and make it as ladylike as possible without ruining the effect of the suit and tie. I loved the outcome and received lots of complements on it.
I also decide to play with grey, black and blue as my basics.
What are your thoughts. Do you think my way of replication is cool or I should just stick to basic white shirt?
